Hello, my name is William. I served active duty in the United States Army from June 1974 to August 1977 and then joined the U.S. Army Reserves 308CA Group. I took basic training in Fort Polk LA, Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benjamin Harrison, specializing in Personnel Management (75C) and Fort Leonard Wood, MO was my permanent duty station. While assigned to Fort Leonard Wood, I worked with personnel files, recruited candidates for West Point Academy, served as administrator for the Drill Sergeant Program, and eventually became an Information Specialist. I worked at the Fort Leonard Wood post newspaper, The Guidon, and part-time at the radio station. My jobs included illustration and reporting. I left active duty as a SP5 and was promoted to SP6 while serving in the Reserves. I enjoyed every position that I was assigned and found each of them to be challenging. I had many mentors who helped my career. I received the following awards: National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. As a journalist, I received The Keith L. Ware Award. I am a Vietnam era veteran but I never went to Vietnam
I retired from the United States Postal Service as a Postmaster. I began my career in 1980 and retired in 2009. It was the most demanding job I ever experienced in my entire life. I was responsible for every aspect concerning the collection, delivery, and processing of mail. Negotiated contractual agreements, processed grievances and administered discipline in accordance with rules and regulations. I overseen Retail Operations and was required to do all the accounting of postal funds. The leadership skills I learned while in the military proved to be a valuable asset in my postal career. My most satisfying
experience was recognizing those employees who deserved praise and recognition.
I am married to my wife, Kimberly, who has been my best friend. We are a blended family, and we have eight adult children with seven grandchildren, and one grandson on the way in July. Brian and Will are
staunch family men, while Brett is a U.S. Army veteran. Ryne is a free spirit. Shelby is busy raising two beautiful children, Chelsea is planning a wedding and Zackary is navigating high school. Stephanie has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and attends a Day Service.
have been diagnosed with Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease, and I am on Peritoneal Dialysis. I began at-home dialysis in August 2024 and am on the cycler machine for approximately 11 hours a day, seven days per week. I have certain limitations caused by this devastating disease. I am unable to travel as frequently with my wife and family as I used to do.
