My name is Tom Farino, and I am a retired steelworker who has lived my entire life in Pennsylvania. I am a Navy Veteran, having served two tours of duty in Vietnam, and was stationed aboard the USS Saratoga. I am looking for a kidney donor so that I may live.

I am in Stage 5 renal failure, which is the last stage of kidney disease, and I started dialysis in April 2025. Searching to find a living donor has not been easy, but I will not give up.

As soon as I was told that I would need to be tested for a kidney transplant, I sent letters to family, friends, and neighbors. I have received many prayers but have not been fortunate enough to get a living donor that is a match. I am the youngest of eleven siblings. Unfortunately, there are only my four sisters and myself left.

I have been married to my wife for 44 years, and we have a wonderful son and daughter-in-law. My wife and I are both retired and have enjoyed our time together doing all the things we love to do whenever we want. I enjoy planting a garden, watching old black-and-white movies, reading mystery novels, politics, playing poker, chess, and canasta with our best friends, traveling, riding bikes and walking on our local trails, working around the house doing projects, and helping my son with his home repairs and projects.

I especially loved our time being snowbirds in Sarasota, Florida. I also have a great love for all animals, especially cats. I am always willing to help anyone—all they need to do is ask. I am asking for your help now so that I may live. Please consider being a donor and ask your friends and family if they would be interested in donating, so that I may be able to enjoy my life again. Your gift would be the gift of a lifetime.

For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Tom’s life with the other!

Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
