Timothy J. Veal, Jr. – PhD

Hello, my name is Timothy J. Veal, Jr and I Served as a Radioman and Satellite Operator (E-6, 1st Class Petty Officer) from March 26, 1984, to August 30, 2000, with deployments in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. A combat veteran of Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan, with top secret clearance. Awards include three Good Conduct Medals, Expert Rifle and Pistol Medals, Defense War Medal, two Battle Efficiency Medals, and the Humanitarian Asian Defense Medal. Prior to retiring in 2000 from active-duty service, I also established various ministries in Japan, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii.

After retiring from the U.S. Navy, I worked at the CDC in Atlanta, GA as an Armed Security Officer from 2000 to 2008. I later became a full-time pastor and founded Glory of God Christian Ministries in Decatur, GA, where I am involved with the community through outreach, counseling, fellowship, public speaking, and mentorship—all of which I find deeply rewarding.

I am single with five children: two sons from my first marriage and three stepchildren (two sons and one daughter) from my second. Their careers span government, technology, healthcare, social security, and independent work. I have seven grandchildren, aged 11 months to 15 years, living in Houston and Atlanta.

Diagnosed with diabetes in 1998 and chronic kidney disease in 2003. I have been undergoing dialysis since May 2021 due to kidney function at 6%, currently attending treatments three times per week. Physical limitations include blurry vision (especially while driving), inability to drive at night, difficulty standing for more than 5-7 minutes, excessive fatigue, and frequent sleepiness.

My interests include baseball, bowling, movies, supporting the homeless, and inviting others to church. As an ordained pastor, I teach and mentor young men. After my kidney transplant, I plan to travel, deepen my faith through new experiences, spend time with loved ones, and seek a balanced, fulfilling life.

I hold an Honorary Doctorate in Philosophy from Higher Place Christian University (2023), a Master of Divinity in Religious Studies from Luther Rice University and Seminary (Magna Cum Laude, 2014), and a Bachelor of Science in Religion from Wayland Baptist University (President’s List, Magna Cum Laude, 2005). I am committed to lifelong learning.

For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the  evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Timothy‘s life with the other!

Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
