Thomas Polizzotto

Combat | Deceased Donor | Navy | Police Officer (Ret.) | Vietnam

I am a US Navy veteran who served in Vietnam in 1966-67 and attained the rank of E-3 mod Engineer Machine Gunner. I was assigned with MCB 62 (Fighting Seabees) with the 3rd Marine Division at Hue Phu Bai near the DMZ.

Here are the awards I received during my service: Vietnamese Service medal with Marine combat insignia, Vietnamese Campaign medal with 3 stars.

Unfortunately, my exposure to Agent Orange contributed to my bladder cancer and other related ailments. Being a part of the Vietnam Veterans Chapter Westchester, is very important to me.

I proudly served 23 years as an NYPD officer where I rose to the rank of Lieutenant overseeing units such as robbery and narcotics in all NYC boroughs. While in the police force, I received 42 decorations including the medal of Exceptional Merit.

While working on the job, I earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the NY Institute of Technology. After retiring, I worked security for New York Pioneer hospital for seven years.

I have been married to my wonderful wife Linda for 42 years. We have two sons and four grandchildren. Our oldest grandchildren are twins (boy and a girl) where one is pursuing a career in nursing and the other is an NYPD officer.

My kidney issues began when I started taking anti-inflammatory medication for my back pain.  This resulted in me having kidney failure, and I have been on dialysis since September 14, 2023.

I would love to get back to traveling with my wife and family, and to do things that have been out of my reach while on dialysis. With the gift of a kidney transplant, I would regain my health and ability to live a more normal life.

For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Thomas’s life with the other!

Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
