My name is Sharon, and I served in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years.  I began as an Administrative Assistant for a ground maintenance squadron. I moved on to supervise a typing pool for a department that produced Marine Corps educational study guides. I also performed ceremonial duties while stationed at Marine Barracks, Washington, DC.  A few of my awards/accomplishments were Marksman Rifle Badge, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Mast, Good Conduct Medal (2) and Letter of Appreciation (2). Supporting my fellow servicemen by performing important administrative duties (mostly behind the scene) was an aspect of my service that I enjoyed the most. Handling the various administrative matters allowed those serving in other fields to be able to focus solely on their mission and to perform it to the best of their ability.

My career has mainly fallen in the administrative field, but in a variety of areas. After the military, I worked as a legal secretary at a law firm for 15 years. I then moved into the commercial property management field. I currently work part-time as a Test Administrator. My job is to proctor candidates who are taking Board Certification Examinations. Experiencing individuals taking that next important step to earn professional certifications in their respective careers gives me a lot of satisfaction.

I’m currently single, I have two adult sons and two lovely grandsons. Both of my sons are smart, successful men, with the oldest following in the footsteps of many of his family members by joining the military and is currently serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. My two grandsons are the apple of my eye. They are 8 and 6 years old. We spend lots of time together and they definitely keep me on my toes and give me a reason to look forward to each day.

I was first diagnosed with kidney disease in 2016. I’m not currently on dialysis and have no physical limitations. I enjoy spending time with family, taking trips with my sisters, and gathering for family events. I love museums, art and jazz music events. But my favorite thing to do is to spend time with my grandsons. We love visiting parks, riding bikes together, and going to the movies. I also love to chaperone for some of their school class trips.

We need you to help us support Sharon.  Whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor,  you can make a profound impact!

Living kidney donation has been proven to be safe.  There are no long term consequences to the donor.  After recovery, donors can live a normal life with one kidney.
