Russell Trufant’s background includes a focus on dedication, family, and exploration. Raised in Madison, Ohio, he attended Madison High School and later Hiram College before joining the military. Russell served for nine years as a Budget Analyst in Accounting and Finance in the US Air Force. He was stationed at Wurtsmith AFB in Oscoda, MI, and served one year at Kunsan AB in South Korea.
He is currently 70 years old and has been married to his wonderful wife Brenda for 48 years. They have two sons and five grandchildren. Now retired, Russell travels within the country as circumstances allow. Although he previously played golf, and other sports such as baseball, racket ball and basketball, his decreased strength and energy have prevented him from participating in recent years.
Russell was diagnosed with diabetes in 1992 and subsequently developed kidney disease, which advanced over time. By 2022, his condition reached stage 5 kidney disease, leading to dialysis treatment beginning in 2023. He is currently seeking a living kidney donor. Managing his kidney disease involves daily dialysis sessions of about seven hours, requiring careful planning and transport of equipment and supplies for any overnight travel.
Once a suitable donor is found and a transplant happens, Russell anticipates improvement in his quality of life. He looks forward to spending extra time with his family, playing sports again, and discontinuing his reliance on dialysis.
For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Russell’s life with the other!
Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
