Hello, my name is Rory Pierce. I am a US Coast Guard veteran in need of a kidney transplant. Because I developed service-connected kidney disease, I received a medical discharge after serving for 3.5 years. I enjoyed my time serving my country working on a LORAN station and later a Coast Guard Cutter.

After leaving the service I took good care of my health and worked as a mail man and later a home renovator. I was privileged to help my family out after my dad had a disabling heart attack. The beautiful state of Maine is my home where I enjoy time with friends and family. I treasure the time spent with my 96-year-old mother and gardening and fishing are my favorite pass times.

In 2012, I started dialysis due to my declining kidney function, and I have been reliant on it ever since. Although dialysis keeps me alive, and I thank God, unfortunately my quality of life is significantly reduced as well as ultimately shortened.

A transplant is a new lease on life! The best type of kidney to receive is from a living donor. It lasts longer than deceased donor kidneys. In addition, the waiting list for deceased donor kidneys is very long, making it a long wait. My family is unable to donate for health reasons. The VA takes care of all transplant related expenses. The operation is quick and relatively simple. Recovery time is fast.

If you would be willing to donate a kidney to me. I would be eternally grateful.

For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Rory’s life with the other!

Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
