Richard “Glenn” Womack

Army | Combat | Living Donor

My name is Glenn Womack, and I proudly served in the United States Army for over 20 years. I began my military journey with four years of active duty in the 82nd Airborne Division, followed by four years in the Army Reserve, and later served in the Texas Army National Guard until my retirement as an E-9 Sergeant Major.

With the 82nd Airborne, I was part of the advance force that deployed to Iraq during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Later, in the Texas Army National Guard, I served as an M1 Armor Crewman before reclassifying as a Cavalry Scout.

I deployed twice to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2005 and 2010), and was honored to receive the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. Among all my roles, I found the greatest fulfillment serving as First Sergeant of a Cavalry Troop, where I could lead and support my fellow soldiers.

I have been married for over 20 years and am a proud father to five young children at home, as well as an adult son and one granddaughter. My family is my greatest source of strength and motivation as I face the challenges of end-stage kidney disease and continue dialysis while awaiting a life-saving kidney transplant.

Despite the toll of this illness, I’m fortunate to still be working as a Laboratory Operations Leader at a chemical plant where I’ve built a 25-year career. One of the highlights of my professional journey was living abroad for over three years while helping establish new laboratories in Thailand and Saudi Arabia.

In healthier times, I loved hunting, fishing, and traveling with my family—simple joys that have become more difficult with each passing day. A transplant would not only restore my health but give me the chance to return to the life I love with the people I love most.

For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Glenn’s life with the other!

Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
