Richard Ferguson

Rick Ferguson is a Veteran who served in the Army Reserves. He guarded Cuban refugees at Ft. Chaffee, AR in the summer heat wave of 1980 and was then assigned funeral detail.

Rick lives in California and with his wife Melodie (who grew up in a military family) and is a proud dad and grandfather.
In civilian life, Rick has devoted his career to public safety working for the California Highway Patrol.

Rick has known about his kidney disease for most of his life. He has a genetic condition called “Polycystic Kidney Disease” which has afflicted many members of his family including his mom and his sister. Rick has been reliant on a dialysis machine multiple times a week for over 4 hours each treatment in order to survive. Despite this treatment and the debilitating symptoms of fatigue, Rick has continued to work full time for the California Highway Patrol.

Rick’s best chance to live a long life, free from dialysis is to find a living kidney donor. While many members of his family would have liked to donate, they are ineligible due to their family risk of developing kidney disease.

For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Rick’s life with the other!

Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
