My name is Rhonda Peterson.

I joined the USAF right after high school as a Medical Administrative Technician. I worked in medical records, served as the First Shirt’s assistant supporting leadership and personnel tasks, and trained for desert operations with our mobile hospital at 29 Palms in July — the hottest time of year!

After my short military career, I earned a BS in Cardiorespiratory Sciences and worked in hospitals from Maine to Alaska, ultimately settling in Montana, where I managed a sleep clinic. I loved my life in healthcare and found real purpose in helping patients with their needs.

Upon retirement, I sold my house, bought an RV, and started traveling and volunteering across the southern United States with my two furry companions. I’ve visited 28 states in my RV so far and volunteer regularly at national and state campgrounds, assisting with visitor services, trail maintenance, and community outreach programs. Traveling has broadened my perspective, introduced me to new people and cultures, and reinforced my commitment to service.

In the summer, I return to Montana to spend time with my daughter and her family, which includes two grandchildren, Roman (12) and Ruby (9). We fill those months with camping, fishing, playing, and cheering them on at their BMX races — both are state champions. Family time keeps me grounded and fuels the projects I take on.

So imagine my surprise when a bout of high blood pressure led to further testing and the discovery of kidney disease. A biopsy confirmed IgA nephropathy. I’m currently being managed on medications at stage 4 chronic kidney disease and have been listed for a transplant since January 2026. My hope is to receive a transplant before needing dialysis, although I understand that may not be possible. After a transplant, I plan to return to the road — continuing to travel, volunteer in the great outdoors, and watch Roman and Ruby grow into young adults. While my RV has taken me to 28 states, I’ve actually been to all except Hawaii, so that beautiful island chain is still on my bucket list.

We need you to help us support Rhonda.  Whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor,  you can make a profound impact!

Living kidney donation has been proven to be safe.  There are no long term consequences to the donor.  After recovery, donors can live a normal life with one kidney.

DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the  evaluation or surgery.
