Raymond “Ray” Harris enlisted in the United States Army in 1976 and served as a Human Resource Specialist. In 2000, he retired as a Sergeant Major after 24 years of active duty. He went on to support the Department of Defense as a contractor for four years and later as a DOD civilian for twelve years.
His 40 years of government service include a variety of assignments and deployments worldwide. He is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and has worked as a Critical Infrastructure Protection Analyst and a Force Structure Analyst.
He and his wife Darleen have been married for over 30 years and have a daughter and three beautiful grandchildren. They enjoy traveling and spending time with their family. One of Ray’s interests is golf. He is a member of the National Negro Golf Association (NNGA) and enjoys playing and traveling with the group.
Years of high blood pressure and diabetes have taken a toll on his body and unfortunately, in 2002 he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD). It has slowed him down, but he looks forward to regaining his health and freedom with the gift of a kidney transplant.
For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Ray’s life with the other!
Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
