I served in the US Navy for over 8 years as a Submarine Sonarman and was part of the original crew, “Plank Owner”, on the USS Key West SSN 722 and the USS Boise SSN 764. I served during the “Cold War” and the First Gulf War and served on fast attack submarines as a sonar supervisor, special operator/technician, and weapons specialist. I have received several awards and honors, and I loved representing my country and my time in the Navy.

When my polycystic kidney disease (PKD) was discovered in 1993, I was medically disqualified for submarine service. I moved to work as a defense contractor, working with the dragon ladies and several special projects before returning to government service. In 2015, I was medically retired from my final position as Combat Systems Program Manager for SUBMEPP/NAVSEA, at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

The beautiful mid coast of Maine is where I call home. I have one child, my daughter, who has been the delight of my life. She is about to celebrate her first wedding anniversary. I love to cook and garden. I also enjoy motorcycle riding and golf, but these hobbies are a bit more difficult now. When I can, I enjoy hunting, fishing, and hanging out at the beach.

Giving back to the community is important to me. I have volunteered for many years including Maine Children’s Cancer with their efforts and feeding the hungry. I also am a lifetime member of the AMVETS, longtime member of the Elk’s, American Legion and Legion Rider’s and Patriot Guard.

My hope is to receive a living donor transplant and regain my health. To continue watching my daughter live her life and be a part of it. To enjoy my hobbies without limitations. Basically, live my life to the fullest.

For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Brent’s life with the other!

Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
