Purvis Bowman

Army | Combat | Deceased Donor

My name is Purvis Bowman, and I served in the United States Army. During my career, I spent 11 months during Desert Storm securing the Kuwait borders. As a soldier my job was to keep the communication systems up and running at all times.  Sometimes I had to travel into hostile areas of fighting to maintain very crucial communication that without it would be devastating to my fellow comrades. I received several service medals from my wartime service. I am very proud to have come from a family with many members who served in the military.

In my everyday life I serve as a mentor to the youth at my church, because they are our future.  My kids are my world, and family time is what I live for.  I have three beautiful daughters whom I hope to walk down the aisle one day so living and getting a new kidney means so much to me.

I continue my journey in a profession as a counselor at a military program that helps both vets and active-duty members get a career in the world of IT. I love helping my fellow brothers and sisters create a legacy for their family with a great career.

I am not married but my ex-wife and I are best friends. My three beautiful girls keep me fulfilled and moving forward every day. In 2022 my middle daughter, at the age of 16, was diagnosed with cancer and it was a hard pill to swallow. We weren’t sure she would survive but we stayed committed to prayer. For two years, I neglected my own health for the sake of my daughter, for her life was far more valuable than my own.

On November 1, 2024, she was pronounced cancer free and had overcome the odds. Nevertheless, my kidney health has declined.  I am sick frequently and my kids are a little broken due to my illness although they try to hide it. I can sense it, but I do well at hiding my pain.  I just want to be normal and see my girls get married and start a family of their own.

“Although I love football and helped coach in a local YMCA Pee Wee League from 2019 to 2022 — my favorite love interest will always be my family.”
