Hi, I’m Paul. In the beginning of my military career, I served 4 yrs in the Infantry. During this time my job was learning combat tactics from hand to hand to calling in mortar strikes. Eventually working my way to Corporal, I was responsible for my own 13 man squad in a platoon of 60 marines. As a member of the 2nd Marine Division, my training carried me from South America, West Africa, Japan, Korea, and several other places. I was fortunate to work alongside elite Navy Seals while in South America. Of my 4-year tenure, two of those 4 years I was stationed at Camp Lejeune, where my training continued until I was honorably discharged.

After my Marine Corps hitch, I worked on the civilian side as a Private Investigator, and also joined the Army National Guard to keep my military time going. After serving 8 years in the Army National Guard, I was honorably discharged and immediately joined the Active Air Force, serving 2 years active before serving 21 years in the reserve and becoming an Air Reserve Technician, which was my full-time civilian occupation, until I retired from both in 2020.

I have been married to my wife, Jana, for 41 years. When I met Jana she was a young widow with two young children. I met her on October 6, 1984, and fell head over heels for her and the children. 6 weeks later, we married on November 21, 1984. Two months later, I adopted my wonderful children, Brooke and Blake, and changed their last name to our family name of Martin. Two years later, we had a new addition to the family, our third child, Blair. Today I am a grandfather of 12.

Until 4 years ago, I was very physically active. This included running 4 to 5 days per week along with calisthenics. But after an alarming change in my blood pressure, I received news from my doctor’s examination that my kidneys have been diseased for decades. They traced the origin back to Camp Lejeune from the water I drank. I was told my body compensated for it until it stopped. I am now on a transplant list, and have taken classes for Peritoneal Dialysis as that time draws near in preparation.

My wife and I live out in the country. So until lately, my daily routine has always been taking care of our property. I spend a lot of time with my grandchildren, as some are at my house often. We try to take trips to see our remaining children and grandchildren in other states as long as my health allows it. As this kidney disease progresses, I will deal with whatever God has put on my plate, but hope to have a second chance.

We need you to help us support Paul.  Whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor,  you can make a profound impact!

Living kidney donation has been proven to be safe.  There are no long term consequences to the donor.  After recovery, donors can live a normal life with one kidney.

DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the  evaluation or surgery.
