My name is Owen McCurty, and I am a proud United States Army Combat Veteran. I was born in Germany and grew up as a military child and lived in various states, due to my father’s military assignments while serving in the Army.
I completed a tour in Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield as well as two overseas tours in Germany and Korea. In 2003, I retired as a Senior Logistics Manager with the rank of Master Sergeant after a long and successful career of twenty years.
As a civilian, my last job was the Chair of the Governor’s Veterans Affairs Committee in Washington State. I am currently enjoying retirement. I have been blessed with two wonderful kids and six grandchildren.
In 2003, at the age of 38 years old my life took an unexpected turn when a routine doctors appointment revealed that I had a progressive form of kidney disease. The news was shocking and devastating and filled me with fear and uncertainty.
Over the past 20 years since retiring, I have explored various wellness lifestyle programs to preserve my kidney function however, my kidney function continues to decrease which has limited my quality of life and drastically shortened my life expectancy.
My main hobby was bodybuilding. I was on the United States bodybuilding team as a lightweight competitor and won numerous competitions. I have been featured in a number of magazines in the past. I have enjoyed volunteering in the Meals on Wheels program and serving on the local Osceola County Sheriff’s Board.
