Martin Banks

Deceased Donor | Navy

Martin Banks served our country in the U.S. Navy as a non-combat veteran and was trained as a Hospital Corpsman. Unfortunately, he was medically discharged due to his battle with diabetes.

After leaving the military, Martin worked as a Medical Technologist, an IT Analyst, and a Project Manager in hospital settings, and he worked as an Engineer at GM on projects related to self-driving cars. He really enjoyed solving problems during his engineering career.

Martin is now retired but is attending seminary to become a pastor and currently serves as a vicar. As someone preparing for ministry, he enjoys deep diving into God’s Word, and being an introvert, he knows he will need to work hard at getting out and meeting people.

Martin and his wife, Nancy, have two children they adopted from Korea. Their daughter is autistic and lives at home, and their son is studying accounting and lives in Little Rock. Martin has had several medical problems leading up to his kidney failure and is not physically strong. He has been on dialysis since February 2024, starting in-center but is now at home using peritoneal dialysis.

Martin loves fixing things and woodworking, and he is an avid reader, currently interested in theology books. He would love to have the chance at a second “career” serving as a pastor.

For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Martin’s life with the other!

Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
