In 1982 I joined the United States Marine Corps. As a Marine, I taught marksmanship and was in the infantry. I deployed into several countries while serving as a Marine. I was deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and jungle training in the Philippines. I became a repel master with the ROK Marines which was in the Republic of Korea. I also did a tour of duty in Okinawa, Japan.
After 8 years in the Corps, I transferred to the United States Army. I was in the Chemical Company, the Calvary, and the infantry. In 2001, I was deployed to Germany in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
After 24 years, I retired with a rank of Sergeant First Class from the United States Military.
I was the Head of Security at a charter school and worked at the youth detention center in Philadelphia. I officially retired from the workforce in 2015. I sustained an injury while working with delinquent youth.
I am married with four children. Two are boys and two are girls. My two daughters attend college, my son is a senior in high school, and my oldest son in his late twenties. All of the members in my family bring me immense joy and pride.
I was diagnosed with kidney failure three years ago. I had a fistula put in at Michael J. Crescenze VA medical center in Philadelphia two years ago, and I’ve been on dialysis for the last year.
I’d like to get back to traveling without the burden of having to find a dialysis center. Two years ago, when dialysis was new to me, I went to a facility in Myrtle Beach and had a bad reaction. I became very sick and now I would rather stay home than travel and risk getting sick at a facility that doesn’t know me.
