My name is Larry Phillips, and I enlisted in the military in 1981. My MOS was 13 Bravo – Cannon Crewman, and I was in an artillery unit stationed in West Germany. What I enjoyed most was the camaraderie among my fellow soldiers.
Before going into the military, I was employed by the Internal Revenue Service as a Tax Examiner. When I returned home, I resumed my employment there. Over the years, I was employed by The City of Philadelphia, the U.S. Postal Service, and the Social Security Administration. My final place of employment was with American Income Life Insurance Company, which was the most rewarding to me. I enjoyed meeting new people and explaining the ins and outs of life insurance.
I am currently with my third and final wife, and I have two children from my first marriage: a boy and a girl. My daughter has a son in eleventh grade and continues to achieve A’s and B’s. My wife has two children as well, and thank God we all get along. My kidneys began to fail me in the late 80’s. In 1996, I began dialysis treatments, and in 1999, I received a transplant. This kidney lasted until 2004, and I had to go back on dialysis for 11 years. Then in 2015, I received my second kidney transplant. The second kidney lasted 7 years, and I have been back on dialysis ever since.
My interests are simple: I enjoy watching movies, old westerns, gladiator movies, and Biblical movies. I love to go shopping whether it be for groceries or clothing, it doesn’t matter. I enjoy going to jazz concerts with my wife and just spending quiet days at home with her. When I receive another transplant, I would love to go on a cruise. Will you join DOVE in our mission to find a kidney for me? Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on my life and the life of my family!
Larry has enlisted the help of a Veteran’s organization called DOVE Transplant which is helping in his outreach to find his life-saving kidney donor. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery.
