Kyle Slone

Army | Living Donor

My name is Kyle Slone. I served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman 31B, separating at the rank of Sergeant. During my service, I deployed to Afghanistan, where I experienced both the intensity of combat operations and the deep brotherhood that forms between those who serve. Being an MP required discipline, judgment, and the ability to lead under pressure, qualities that shaped the man I am today. What I valued most about my time in uniform was the sense of purpose and responsibility. I was proud to serve, proud to lead soldiers, and proud to contribute to something greater than myself.

After leaving the Army, I continued my commitment to service by becoming a law enforcement officer in Ohio. I currently serve as a Sergeant and am pending promotion to Lieutenant. My career in policing has mirrored much of what I loved about the military, including leadership, accountability, and protecting others in moments that matter most. One of the greatest privileges of my civilian career has been mentoring younger officers and helping shape the next generation of leaders. Watching them grow in confidence and capability has brought me tremendous satisfaction.

Above all else, I am a father. Liam, Madison, and Maverick are my greatest pride and my greatest motivation. Liam, my oldest, is thoughtful, intelligent, and driven. He challenges himself and cares deeply about doing things the right way. Madison brings light and warmth into every room she enters. She is kind, strong willed, and has a heart that sees the best in people. Maverick, my youngest, keeps our house full of energy and laughter. He reminds me daily not to take life too seriously. Each of them is unique, and each of them has shaped me in ways I could never have imagined.

My partner, Jen, has been a steady and grounding presence in my life. She shares my commitment to family, hard work, and resilience. Together, we recently moved into a new home, a place we envisioned as a foundation for our future. Building that home has symbolized stability, growth, and hope. It represents everything we are working toward as a family.

My kidney journey has been unexpected and humbling. Despite feeling strong through years of military service and law enforcement, I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease that has progressively worsened. I am now pursuing a kidney transplant and facing the possibility of dialysis. Coming to terms with the reality that my body is struggling internally while I continue to carry responsibility externally has been difficult. The thought of being dependent on a machine to sustain life weighs heavily, especially as someone who has always defined himself by independence and capability.

Fatigue has become more present in my life, and there are days when my energy is limited. Still, I continue to work, lead, and parent with intention. I approach this challenge the same way I approached military service and policing, steady, disciplined, and focused on the mission. My mission now is simple: to be present for my children’s milestones, to grow old alongside Jen, and to continue serving my community.

Outside of work, I enjoy home improvement projects, working on vehicles, spending time outdoors, and strengthening my faith. I look forward to regaining strength and endurance after transplant so I can return fully to the active life I have built, not just for myself, but for the people who depend on me.

This chapter is not one I would have chosen, but it is one I am determined to walk through with courage and gratitude. I remain hopeful, motivated, and committed to the life and purpose I have been blessed with.
