My name is Kenneth Simmons, and I enlisted in the United States Army and served for four years as a Finance Specialist from 1980-1984. During my time in the military, I spent two years in Germany from 1981-1983 and reached the rank of Specialist before finishing my time. The aspect I enjoyed most about serving was the various people I met during my four years in the Army.
After I left the military, I received a bachelor’s degree in accounting, however, I retired from Orange County Public Schools as a middle school history teacher. The most satisfying part of being a teacher was working with the children. They are our future.
I have been married to my wife Kimberly for 39 years. We have two sons, Ahmad Simmons and Kwame Simmons. Ahmad lives in Atlanta, GA and Kwame lives in Seattle, WA. My son Kwame has a master’s degree in public administration and my son Ahmad is working on his master’s degree in health administration.
I have had kidney issues since 2019 or 2020 which started due to uncontrollable diabetes and high blood pressure. Unfortunately, I have been reliant on dialysis to keep me alive since November of 2022.
I am retired and I love to travel but doing so while on dialysis is very inconvenient. My other interests and hobbies include cooking and studying history. I am really looking forward to traveling more and getting back to my active lifestyle after I receive the gift of a kidney transplant.
Kenneth has enlisted the help of a Veteran’s organization called DOVE Transplant which is helping in his outreach to find his life-saving kidney donor. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save this Veteran’s life!
Will you join DOVE in our mission to find a kidney for Kenneth? Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
