Hello, my name is John Marriott. I am 63 years old and live in Coatesville, PA. I joined the U.S. Coast Guard after my junior year of high school and completed Boot Camp between my junior and senior year. I served in the Coast Guard throughout my senior year, and after graduation, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
I went to ASVAB Boot Camp, then on to the USS Piedmont AD-17 out of Norfolk, and later to an Amphibious Construction Battalion in Virginia. I spent some time at a Reserve Center with shore duty in Buffalo, NY, before going to Scotland on the USS Hunley as a 31a Sub Tender. After serving 11 years, I was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy.
I am now retired and have spent much of my time focusing on getting healthier. In 2023, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney disease. I put myself on a renal diet and have lost over 80 pounds, which has helped. Since January 2025, I am now reliant on a dialysis machine for three days a week and doing the best I can.
My two wonderful children, a son and a daughter, live in the Outer Banks, NC, and I am blessed with one grandchild. I also enjoy my time as a Master Mason with the Shriners. I am listed at a transplant center that has a paired exchange program, so you do not need to be a perfect match for me.
For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save John’s life with the other!
Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
