Help Save the Life of a Veteran: A Kidney is Needed for John Madafferi

John Madafferi proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1967, serving during the Vietnam War as an engine man. He was stationed for 14 months in Iceland on a communications base, where he maintained the emergency generator. Later, he was moved to an aircraft carrier, continuing that critical role. One of his greatest joys during his service was learning from fellow sailors, hearing their survival stories, and building lifelong bonds.

After his honorable military service, John returned home and opened his own refrigeration company, which he operated for 13 years. He then began a long career as a Field Equipment Representative for Hussmann, a large corporation, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement in 2022.

John’s life has been marked by dedication and love. He was married to his first wife for 35 years until her passing from breast cancer. Today, John is remarried and together they cherish their blended family of 7 children and 7 grandchildren
.
For more than 40 years, John has been bravely battling polycystic kidney disease (PKD). In May 2024, his condition reached the point where he now relies on dialysis to survive. Even so, John continues to stay active—riding his bike, walking, fishing, boating, and enjoying life with his family.

Now, John needs your help. A living kidney donor could save his life. Together, we can give this Navy Veteran, father, and grandfather the chance to keep living the life he loves.

For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save John’s life with the other!

Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
