John attended the US Naval Academy graduating in 1978 with a degree in Physics. While at the Academy, he lettered in sailing and skippering an off shore boat.
As a nuclear trained submarine officer, John deployed on several boats to places unknown. During that time, he developed insulin dependent diabetes and was medically discharged from the Navy after 12 years of service.
Diabetes had eventually destroyed John’s kidneys. He is currently reliant on dialysis for his survival and goes three times per week.
John continues to enjoy his family which includes his wife of 40 years, his daughters, granddaughters, sons-in-laws and would like to get back to mobility to enjoy his passions for old cars, photography and travel.
John has been deemed an excellent candidate for a kidney transplant. Successful transplants give John the best chance to live a long life, free from dialysis. However, the wait for kidney from a deceased donor is over 5 years long. John may not survive the wait.
For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save John’s life with the other!
Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
