My name is Joe Lydon, and I served in the US Air Force as a Weapons Mechanic, working as a member of a four man weapons load crew, mostly on F4 Phantoms. I was predominately stationed in the western US, although I was involved in different war game exercises – one being a NATO exercise in West Germany. I really enjoyed the camaraderie and the traveling.
After my time in the military, I worked as a Concrete Mixer Operator and retired after 35 years with the Teamsters Union in Boston. I have one son and a beautiful three-year-old granddaughter. Sadly, her mother, who was only in her thirties, recently passed away from pancreatic cancer, and I am needed to help raise her.
I was diagnosed several years ago with chronic kidney disease (CKD). My kidney function has been slowly declining, and I am hoping for a living donor before the need for dialysis arises. Keeping active as much as possible is important to me, so I spend time outdoors golfing, walking and spending time with my dog. I also enjoy working around my property, socializing with friends and having family get togethers.
For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Joe’s life with the other!
Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
