Jesse Silva

Army | Combat | Living Donor | Vietnam

My name is Jesse Silva, and I am an Army combat veteran, husband, father, and grandfather. I served as an Army Lieutenant in Vietnam and was awarded two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. Looking back on my tour in Vietnam, I appreciate the camaraderie with my fellow soldiers.

After completing my military service, I received a master’s degree in International Commerce. Throughout my civilian career, I had the opportunity to live and travel extensively abroad. Travel is something I have always enjoyed and hope to continue.

I am very fortunate to live close to my three grandchildren, daughter, and son-in-law. I attend all my grandchildren’s school and athletic events, which I enjoy very much. I am also an avid tennis player and golfer and try to ski when I can.

I am hoping to find a living kidney donor so I can continue living a full and active life with friends and family. I was diagnosed with genetic Polycystic Kidney Disease in 2018, and I am currently preparing for dialysis. In 2024, I was placed on the deceased donor waitlist at the Iowa and Pittsburgh VA Transplant Centers, which is expected to take many years. A living donor would be my best option, which is why I am working with DOVE, an organization that helps connect kidney donors to Veterans in need.

For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Jesse’s life with the other!

Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
