Jeffrey Alfonso Benson

Army | Deceased Donor | National Guard | National Guard

My name is Jeffrey Alfonso Benson, and I am 64 years old and live in Easton Pennsylvania. At the age of 18, I entered the New Jersey Army National Guard as an Inventory Supply Clerk and loved every moment of it, especially setting up camp and sleeping in tents. The kicker was my father was as menacing as any drill Sergeant I ever met.

My early years were spent in the mountains of West Virginia. I was the eldest of ten siblings raising pigs, chickens, rabbits, and goats, not to mention growing our own vegetables. At the age of 13, I relocated to Easton PA with my mother.

As a student I played sports: basketball, football, and boxing but because of economics I quit school and joined the Army. Upon graduating from basic and AIT, I landed a job at Bethlehem Steel as a boilerman working there for ten years. During that time four children were born: a son who has recently passed away due to kidney disease and three daughters. My children have blessed me with 11 wonderful grandchildren.

God willing I’ll get the kidney transplant I need and will be able to watch my grandchildren grow. I miss out on so much with them due to my dialysis treatments on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and on the days that I don’t have dialysis, I’m recovering from it. I miss taking them fishing, going for walks in the park and feeding the ducks, but I have the upmost confidence that God will provide.
