My name is Jason Townsend, and I served in the US Air Force as a military police officer. I guarded Air Force One and guarded the president while he was on the base. I was an E-4 about to test for E-5 when I was medically retired due to end stage kidney disease.

Interacting with all the many people from different backgrounds and ethnicities while in the military was great. I enjoyed protecting the people of my base, especially when I was guarding while the president was on base. I took pride in knowing people felt safe, and I had something to do with it.

I have been battling end stage kidney disease for the past 19 years. I go to dialysis three times a week, which started when I was 23 and I am only going on 42. The bad thing about dialysis is being tired, feeling exhausted, and finding it hard to drive. Sometimes I am too tired to wash and take care of my car, often completely miserable everyday just from feeling sick daily.

But what gives me hope is my relationship with Christ; I believe that there is still a reason why I’m still here. The Bible says that faith is the substance of things hoped for in the evidence of Things Not Seen. So, I believe that. I would love to go hiking and travel again.  And help others get back to dancing, I was a dancer, a private dancer—no I’m joking hahaha, sometimes you gotta laugh to keep from crying.

Thank you for taking the time to read a little of my story.
