Hello, my name is Gunnery Sergeant Jim Owens. I retired from the United States Marine Corps after serving 21 years as an Infantryman. I am a husband of 34 years to my wonderful wife Yvette and a father of five children. During my military life, I made numerous deployments throughout the world.
I retired in 2014 from the federal government working with the Transportation Security Administration. We live in Florida, where I have easy access to all sorts of outdoor activities that I enjoy, like swimming and boating. I love going to church and helping others and continue to do what I can.
I have been diagnosed with Stage 5 kidney disease, which was brought on by diabetes. In November 2024, I needed to start peritoneal dialysis (PD), and I am now reliant on it for my survival. For 22 years I have fought diabetes and for the past 6 years I have quietly endured my kidney illness. A new kidney would mean that I could enjoy more time with loved ones.
For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Jim’s life with the other!
Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
