Henry “Bernard” Cowan

I served in the U.S. Navy from 1985 to 1989 onboard the USS GUAM LPH-9. I was a Petty Officer 3rd Class as an Aviation Boatswains Mate in charge of maintaining jet fuel and refueling Aircraft on the flight deck.

I have been employed with Daimler Trucks North America for 36 years. Since July of 1989, I have been working in Quality Assurance.

My wonderful wife Rose-Ann and I have been married for five years; she works as an elementary school teacher. I have two biological children—my 26-year-old twins (a son and a daughter), and two stepchildren—two 30-year-old daughters that are also twins. I am also a proud Army Dad and have a 3-year-old Grandson.

I love to travel, whether going on cruises, taking trips to the mountains, or national parks. Also, I love to fish and cook some of my favorite meals for my family and friends.

I have been dealing with chronic kidney disease for most of my adult Life. Diagnosed with IGA Neuropathy, I went on dialysis from 2008 to 2011 before receiving my first deceased donor kidney transplant in July of 2011. It lasted for 14 years, and I am currently on dialysis again and waiting for another transplant.

Day to Day life has had its challenges dealing with this disease, but I continue to stay positive and try to be as strong as I can. I do my best to maintain my health in any way that is in my control. I lean on my faith in God and my family, and the support system that surrounds me. I would be so grateful to have anyone offer a living kidney with the understanding that living donation gives so much more of a better chance of a better quality of life.

For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the  evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Bernard‘s life with the other!

Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
