Heather Brown joined the Air Force straight out of High School in 2002. She served for 4 years spending the majority of that time in San Antonio at Randolph AFB where she was a Med Tech or 4N051 job series.
During her service time she worked in both family care and pediatrics occasionally working in OB/GYN.
Heather met her husband (also an Air Force Veteran) while serving in her med tech role, when he came into the clinic as a patient. They have been married for over 20 years and have an 18 year old son who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, but has overcame many of the obstacles along the way.
Heather is also is a proud dog mom to 4 dogs, and has rescued many shelter dogs over the course of life. Heather was diagnosed with PKD, a genetic disorder around 2007, however knew it was a likely outcome as her mother, brother, and sister had already been diagnosed and have since each gone through dialysis and transplants. Unfortunately due to this being a genetic disorder, the family does not have any candidates able to donate.
Heather was officially informed she was ready to be on the transplant list almost 2 years ago in early 2024. She has been very lucky to have not needed to start dialysis yet but it’s only a matter of time, and that time is approaching swiftly as her GFR continues to drop. Due to struggling with some insurance obstacles and having to wait 6 months for her initial evaluation, she wasn’t listed until Dec 2024.
Heather would really love to receive her life saving kidney before she has to start dialysis. Heather graduated nursing school in 2014 and has been serving as a Registered Nurse since, in numerous positions between hospitals, surgery centers, specialists, and home health care She is currently still working as a Registered Nurse, providing infusion and IV work for a small Holistic Doctor’s office, mostly taking care of cancer patients. Receiving a kidney will be a blessing for her, as she will be able to continue to perform her roles in providing care for her family, pets, and patients. She also is looking forward to seeing her sons transition into adulthood, and hopefully one day becoming a grandparent.
