My name is Gregory D. Duncan. I am 59 years old. I was born and raised in Hartland, Michigan. I am the eldest of 4 children. I graduated from Hartland High School in June of 1984 and entered the Army in July of 1984. I began basic training in Fort Dix, New Jersey and completed training in September of 1984. Following basic training I was relocated to Fort Lee in Virginia for MOS training (76C1O) Equipment Records and Parts Specialist. In December of 1984 I was stationed in Camp Page, Korea. As an Equipment Records and Parts Specialist, I worked directly with the Blackhawk Helicopters. I often flew with the team to retrieve and drop off parts to ensure the helicopters continued to fly safely. I was honorably discharged in July of 1986 as an E4. My time in the service allowed me a flying experience that was exciting and provided me a view of the world that I would have never seen.
Following my discharge, I returned home to Michigan and entered the culinary industry. I became a father of three beautiful girls, Samantha, Valerie, and Jacyln. They are all in their twenties and married. I am blessed to have four grandchildren and two more due in July of this year.
I made a choice to move to Florida in 2013 and I have continued working in the culinary industry. I worked at the Tampa Convention Center. For the last 11 years I have worked at Ricks On The River.
My kidney journey began in 2022 following a hospitalization in which I had CHF. On follow-up, I was informed my kidneys were damaged as a result of the CHF and undiagnosed HTN. Since my diagnosis, I have been compliant with my treatment plan, including appointments, medications, and any recommendations. I am stage 4 on the cusp of stage 5 and feel that a transplant prior to dialysis would be beneficial to my quality of life. I am currently on the UNOS list and registered at the Hines VA in Chicago, Illinois. The DOVE program was a suggestion from my kidney transplant coordinator.
As an athlete all through my life, participating in football, baseball, and wrestling has contributed to my health. I am a sports enthusiast. I enjoy the outdoors and going to different places. I don’t travel much as I work a lot. I am recently engaged and want many more years to enjoy my children, grandchildren, and my future wife.
We need you to help us support Greg. Whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, you can make a profound impact!
Living kidney donation has been proven to be safe. There are no long term consequences to the donor. After recovery, donors can live a normal life with one kidney.
