I was a Nuclear Propulsion Plant Operator (aka Navy Nuke), where I served on three different ships: the USS Austin (LPD-4), the USS Enterprise (CVAN-65), and the USS Mississippi (CGN-40). I served from 1974 to 1980 (Vietnam Era Veteran).

I retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory where I worked my way up to Maintenance Manager. I am still working as an Adjunct Professor at New Mexico Tech in the Engineering Management Department and mentor graduate students with their thesis projects.

Due to my continuing battle with kidney disease, I am down to 10 percent function and have been on dialysis for the past 18 months. While I’m grateful to the dialysis team for keeping me alive, the 12 hours a week hooked up to a machine is not how I pictured my retirement. I do my best to live my life as fully as I possibly can.

I am married to my wonderful wife Theresa, and we have a daughter, Alexandra, who recently received her PhD in Chemistry. Theresa and I are used to traveling the world. We have a bucket list of new trips if I get a kidney. Since retiring, I have found several excellent volunteer opportunities I enjoy: working with Kiwanis projects, volunteering with the local food bank, and driving disabled veterans to doctor appointments.

Will you join DOVE in our mission to find a kidney for Fred? Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life, and the life of his family!

Fred has enlisted the help of a Veteran’s organization called DOVE Transplant which is helping in his outreach to find his life-saving kidney donor. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery.

A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save this Veteran’s life! Please click on the link below if you would like to learn more OR call (551) 233-1611.
