Ericke Slaughter

Living Donor | Navy

My name is Ericke Slaughter. I’m a 43-year-old, retired Chief Petty Officer and disabled veteran who served as a Hospital Corpsman (Preventive Medicine Tech) in the Navy for 22 years. I was stationed at various sea and shore commands and deployed to Kuwait during “Operation Enduring Freedom”, Med Surge/Fifth Fleet (Preventing Piracy and Drug Trafficking), South America (Southern Partnership Station), and Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Africa.

I was diagnosed with a rare genetic kidney disease called Thin Basement Membrane in 2014. I’m currently not on dialysis; however, I’m in End Stage-5 (kidney failure), and will need dialysis to sustain life if I don’t undergo transplant surgery. I’ve become anemic and struggle with doing daily tasks because of my chronic fatigue.

I’m engaged to my wonderful fiancé, Wil, who has stood by me and supported me through this medical battle for 6 years. My lovely daughter will be graduating from college this Fall, and I don’t want to miss it. A living kidney donor will help me bypass the long waiting list for a deceased donor, which could take 3-5 years. I praise God for his joy, glory, and grace to see another blessed day.

I pray that reading my story will encourage an angel to bless me with the ultimate gift of donating a kidney.

We need you to help us support Ericke.  Whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor,  you can make a profound impact!

Living kidney donation has been proven to be safe.  There are no long term consequences to the donor.  After recovery, donors can live a normal life with one kidney.

DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the  evaluation or surgery.
