I served in the USMC for 7 years and 9 months. I achieved the rank of Captain, and MOS of a Naval Aviator flying the CH-46 Helicopter. I deployed to several different locals for different reasons. Last deployment was to Panama to prepare for the removal of Noriega. I don’t consider myself a combat veteran as no one ever shot directly at me. I did receive the Navy Achievement Medal for my work with the Infantry Units assigned to that mission.

I was medically discharged from the Marines on 28 August 1990. Sought out assistance from the D.A.V. of which I am a life member. D.A.V. counselors helped me return to college using my benefits to study Radiologic Technology. Earning my certifications and volunteering at the VA Hospital at LaJolla , helped me get started on my civilian career. Working there with other Veterans, I moved up to CT scan and Interventional Technologist. My disabilities caught up with me and I had to take Medical Retirement from full time work. I really miss helping people.

After leaving the VA I began giving full time care to my father until his passing in late 2018. Then made the move from San Diego to Rancho Mirage. This allowed me to be closer to the last remaining immediate member of my family. The warm weather and relaxed attitude here made the transition easy.

I am a lifelong bachelor who has been dealing with kidney disease since the late 1990’s due to the combination of medications I had been prescribed poisoned my renal system. I am hanging on by watching my diet and doing light exercise to avoid dialysis as long as possible, however, that will probably change before the end of this year.

If I am lucky enough to receive a kidney returning to the medical field as a volunteer is the plan. I definitely hope to give back because of all the help I have received so far.

For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Earl’s life with the other!

Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
