Meet Donald – A Life of Service, Family, and Adventure

My name is Donald Tankson, and my journey has been one of service, hard work, and deep love for my family. I am a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served as a HAWK System Radar Mechanic, a role that not only sharpened my technical skills but also allowed me to meet people from all over the world. Those three years of service were some of the most meaningful of my life, and I carried the discipline and camaraderie I learned into the next chapter of my career.

For 40 years, I worked in transportation, ensuring that people and goods moved safely and efficiently. It was a career that required dedication and responsibility, and after decades of hard work, I recently retired. Retirement has given me more time to enjoy the things I love—spending time outdoors, traveling to new places, fishing, hunting, and hiking. But more than anything, it has allowed me to cherish my role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. My three daughters and four grandkids are my world, and I want to be here for as many birthdays, graduations, and Sunday dinners as possible.

In 2014, I was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), a hereditary condition that has slowly progressed over time. While I am not yet on dialysis, my doctors have made it clear that I will need a kidney transplant to continue living a full and active life. I am reaching out now, hoping to connect with someone who may be willing to give the ultimate gift—the gift of life.

I know that asking for a kidney is no small request. But I also know the incredible power of human kindness and generosity. If you or someone you know would consider being a living donor, I would be forever grateful. Even if you can’t donate, sharing my story could help me find the match I need.

For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Don’s life with the other!

Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
