Hi, my name is Derrick. I served as an 11 Bravo Infantry E-5 in the Army and was recognized as a sharpshooter. During my service, I earned the Army Commendation Medal, a Certificate of Achievement, and the Good Conduct Medal.
After my time in the military, I began working for a financial company. Helping people has always been a priority for me, even after my service. I later worked in Human Resources, where I supported others and built strong relationships with my team. I am single with no children, but I have two beautiful nieces and a sister who is happily married.
I have been dealing with kidney issues for many years. For about 10 years, I managed my condition while closely monitoring my phosphorus and potassium levels. Eventually, it became too difficult to manage without further intervention, and I started dialysis on August 29, 2024.
Being on dialysis has come with significant challenges. I am limited to drinking no more than one liter of fluids per day. Having to rely on the VA to set up available appointments at dialysis centers has also been a very difficult and discouraging experience, and at times, it makes me not want to go.
One of the things I miss the most is traveling, as my condition and treatment schedule have made that much harder to do.
We need you to help us support Derrick. Whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, you can make a profound impact!
Living kidney donation has been proven to be safe. There are no long term consequences to the donor. After recovery, donors can live a normal life with one kidney.
DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery.
