Corey Bell

Deceased Donor | Navy

My name is Corey Bell, and I served for four years active duty in the US Navy from 1981-1985. I worked in a foundry as a molder manufacturing parts and other items out of molten metal. I served on the USS Hector AR7, which was the first ship to earn the repair R. At the end of my time in the Navy, I was an E-5 and received two sea service ribbons and two humanitarian medals.

After the military, I worked in construction, worked in a woolen mill doing repairs, and drove tractor trailers across the country. The best job I had was driving a truck. I really enjoyed it!

Unfortunately, in 2008 I became disabled at the age of 45 due to severe degenerative arthritis. About four years ago in 2021, I was diagnosed with kidney failure because of my battle with diabetes. I have been doing dialysis since August of 2021 and will be reliant on it for my survival until a living kidney donor can be found.

My wife Barbara and I have been together for 39 years. I have two stepsons, one lives close by, and the other is a few hours away, and we have been blessed with two grandchildren.

I used to enjoy doing mechanical work, going hunting, and riding motorcycles, but sadly, my arthritis limits me from doing these activities anymore.

I continue to do what I can and work on taking care of my health and my family. I look forward to receiving a kidney transplant and getting off dialysis. This will give me the best opportunity to watch my grandchildren grow up and spend more years with my wonderful wife.

For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Coery‘s life with the other!

Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
