Clarence Calvin Woods Sr. is a decorated United States (US) Army veteran and accomplished executive whose life has been defined by service, leadership, and resilience. Born in Fort Valley, Georgia, Clarence has spent over 44 years supporting military operations and mentoring others — both in uniform and in civilian life. He currently resides in San Antonio, Texas, where he serves as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of DOC-Development Inc. (DDI), leading global military and commercial business development.
Clarence enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1975 and served honorably for 22 years, retiring as a Sergeant First Class and Armor Master Gunner. His career spanned roles as Cavalry Scout, Tank Commander, and Senior Training Officer, with assignments in Germany, Korea, and the Balkans. He completed advanced military education, including the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy and the M1A1 Master Gunner Course. Clarence’s leadership and tactical expertise earned him multiple commendations and the respect of soldiers across the globe.
After retiring from active duty, Clarence continued his service with the Department of Defense for 24 years, overseeing and managing logistics and training operations with a budget exceeding $1 billion. He supported more than 84,000 personnel annually across NATO, USARPAC, and U.S. Army Europe. His work has shaped readiness, training, and strategic operations in some of the world’s most complex environments. Today, he leads global initiatives at DDI, where his vision and experience continue to impact military and commercial sectors worldwide.
Clarence has been living with end-stage renal disease and currently undergoes hemodialysis three times per week. Despite the physical toll, he continues to lead, inspire, and serve. A living donor transplant offers Clarence a significantly improved prognosis, both in terms of survival and quality of life. Through DOVE, Clarence hopes to receive a life-saving kidney transplant from a living donor — a gift that would dramatically improve his health, longevity, and quality of life.
Clarence shares his story to raise awareness and encourage others to consider becoming a donor. He hopes to return to full health so he can continue his work, spend more time with family, and give back to the community that shaped him.
Clarence is married to Nenita Woods and is the proud father of three children — a daughter and two sons. He enjoys spending time with his extended family and close friends. His oldest son is currently in college and serves as a cadet, while his youngest son is in high school and active in ROTC — both following in their father’s footsteps of service and leadership. Clarence takes great pride in guiding them and sharing the values that shaped his own journey.
After receiving a kidney transplant, Clarence hopes to return to a more active life — mentoring young veterans, supporting his church community, and volunteering with organizations that uplift families facing health challenges. He’s especially passionate about giving back to the donor community by sharing his story, supporting outreach efforts, and helping others navigate the transplant journey.
He wants to use his second chance to raise his children, enjoy time with his wife, family, friends, and acquaintances, and continue serving others through mentorship, community outreach, and by inspiring future donors with his journey of resilience and hope.
Clarence believes that every act of service — whether in uniform, in the workplace, or in the community — creates a ripple effect. His goal is to use his experience, his family’s example, and his renewed health to inspire others to become living donors and change lives.
“Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they ever made a difference in the world. A veteran doesn’t have that problem.” — Ronald Reagan
