My name is Charlie Joe Singleton; I am 73 years old and was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. I served in the U.S. Air Force from 1970 to 1992 and started my career as an Administrative Specialist. Shortly afterward, I received training in Postal and Courier Services and was assigned to Det 1500 Postal and Courier Services Squadron in Saigon, Vietnam, from 1971 to 1972. For the duration of my service, I continued to work as an Administrative Specialist, in Postal Services, Military Police, and Information Management, before honorably retiring in September 1992.
As a civilian, I enrolled and paid my way into the Correction Academy at Hillsborough Community College. Upon graduation, I worked as a Corrections Officer at the Hillsborough Correctional Institute from 1993 to 1995. In 1995, I made a career change and transferred to the U.S. Postal Service, where I worked as a mail processor and a Union Steward until I retired in 2003 due to chronic medical problems.
I am married to Elena, and we have been married for 46 years; we have been blessed with three children and three grandchildren. I enjoy taking cruises and going for walks several times a week. I developed chronic kidney disease (CKD) from many years of uncontrolled hypertension and diabetes. Currently, I am classified as pre-dialysis, with hopes of meeting a donor who is willing to share the gift of life.
For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Charlie’s life with the other!
Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
