I proudly served four years in the Navy as a RM/Telecommunication Specialist. With a rate that required a Top Secret Clearance, I was fortunate to have been able to do some of the coolest jobs in the world. I knew I was a lifer in the Navy, because I was very passionate about my job.
Unfortunately, I got sick with kidney disease and was medically retired before I was able to fulfill my Navy career. This didn’t stop me from wanting to serve my country. So, I prayed God would ward off my kidney disease and allow me to serve my country a different way.
I was hired as a defense contractor for a government agency during the critical times of the Gulf War. After years of dedication and commitment to the top secret world, my kidney disease progressed, I knew it was time to slow down. I was hired on with the United States Post Office where I served until my kidney disease required me to go on dialysis. That’s when I retired.
After three hard years of dialysis, I was blessed with my first kidney donation. Although my donor kidney was almost 70 years old, I was blessed with 13 1/2 years of good and healthy function. Now, the time has come where I need another kidney donation, so that I can continue to fulfill the blessings God has bestowed on my life.
I would love to continue watching my 16-year-old grandson, and 3-year-old twin grandkids grow and thrive. I’m enjoying watching my youngest son follow in my footsteps, excelling in the Navy. I’m so proud to watch my oldest son fulfill his dreams of being a peer specialist for those who struggle with mental illness.
I want to be able to take my beautiful wife of 38 years overseas to the beautiful countries I was able to see while on tour in the Navy and enjoy traveling with her. My family and I need me to be here—healthy, happy and able. A new kidney would be such a blessing for all of us.
For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Charles‘s life with the other!
Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
