Brian Volk

Air Force | Combat | Living Donor

Brian Volk is a US Air Force veteran who started at the age of 18 loading weapons on FB-111 aircraft as a Aircraft Armament Systems Technician. He also loaded weapons on several other aircraft and spent time in many other places, both in and out of the US. His other responsibilities included maintaining the weapon electrical system on the plane, and as an instructor “teaching others how to do his job.”

Brian sustained a traumatic brain injury from a terrorist bombing during his time serving at Khobar Towers, Saudi Arabia in 1996.  He was awarded the Airman’s Medal and the Purple Heart for rescuing others and because of his injuries.

In 2010, he retired from the US Air Force after 22 years and 10 months of military service.

Brian has spent much of his time since then serving others. He is the treasurer for the Wayne County Veterans/Patriots Coalition and is a wonderful advocate for many veteran causes, including placing flags at the grave sites and helping with the Veteran’s Day parade. Brian also belongs to an organization called Project Healing Waters, which helps disabled veterans through “camaraderie, connectedness and fly fishing.”

Brian has been married to his wife Brenda for 27 years and has a 23-year-old son Jakob. He desires to stay as active as he can but finds his fatigue keeps him from doing as much as he is used to doing. He loves being outside, going on 100-mile motorcycle rides, building fly fishing rods, and using them. Brian has been diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease and started hemodialysis in December 2024. He is now reliant on dialysis for his survival. Will you help Brian reclaim his active lifestyle, continue to serve disabled veterans and be present for his family?

For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Brian’s life with the other!

Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
