Brendan Piper is a 41-year-old US Marine Corps veteran who served 8 years as a Low Altitude Air Defense Gunner. His main job was as a battery motor transport supply representative properly maintaining the trucks, doing inspections and handling logistics. He spent five years stationed at Camp Pendleton, three years at Cherry Point, and was deployed for seven months in Afghanistan in 2010 on a security mission.
After his discharge in 2017, Brendan pursued further education and received an associate’s degree in office administration and began his work with non-profits. He started with Services for the Under Served, which provides housing and supportive services and then became the Veteran Outreach Coordinator at Long Island Cares (the Harry Chapin Food Bank), dedicated to serving food-insecure populations. Brendan later worked as an Outreach Specialist with the Wounded Warrior Project’s NYC office for three years until he needed to step away due to his kidney failure. He has been diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease (PKD) and started home dialysis in October 2024. Some of his cysts have been bursting, causing excruciating pain, and with a lot of traveling for work, it was decided that he needed to focus on his health.
Brendan and his wife Luci are high school sweethearts and are celebrating 16 years of marriage. They have three wonderful children, ages 15, 14, and 10. With the gift of a new kidney, Brendan hopes to start going to the gym again, riding bikes, traveling, and, of course, returning to work with the Wounded Warrior Project to continue helping the veteran community.
For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Brendan’s life with the other!
Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
