Arthur “Roger” Bruce enlisted in the Army in 1972 and served eight years as a medic and nurse clinician in a Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) with the 82nd Airborne. He also had an assignment at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, GA before his honorable discharge in 1980.

After his military service, Roger continued working as a nurse and later became a licensed paramedic. He was working at a nuclear power plant in the safety department when an accident happened, so he sprang into action and became a certified safety professional. Roger ended up working on-call with a company traveling to teach workplace safety, CPR, and first aid. He has provided environmental help at Three Mile Island and the clean-up of the Hudson River.

Roger and his wife Joann have been married for 49 years and have a son and a daughter, plus two grandchildren. He volunteers for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) by driving them to their medical appointments and continues to occasionally work as a paramedic to keep his license current. Roger feels that his kidneys were affected by the environmental toxins he was exposed to, has Stage 5 kidney failure but is not yet reliant on dialysis.

For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Roger’s life with the other!

Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
