Hi, my name is April. I proudly served 12 years in the United States Army as an 63B/Light wheeled vehicle mechanic for 401st MP Company/ 720th MP BN and later handpicked to lead as the Maintenance Supervisor. I deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

My last duty station gave me the opportunity to serve the White House Communications Agency (WHCA), directly supporting the President, Vice President, White House Staff, and United States Secret Service. Served as the Maintenance Supervisor overseeing all maintenance and services for a fleet of Presidential mobile communications vehicles. I deployed worldwide as a Liaison between WHCA, US Secret Service and White House Staff; coordinating personnel and equipment movement between various trip sites in support of the President. What I valued most about my military service was knowing my work mattered—supporting others and contributing to something bigger than myself. I grew up around it, service has always been a major part of who I am, my family, and how I was brought up.

Even after I left the Army, I knew I wanted to continue supporting the Military and The Department of War. Ultimately it took me to the U.S. Navy, where I currently work as a Senior Program Manager supporting critical Shipboard Air Traffic Control systems across the Fleet. My work focuses on acquisition management, budgets, contracts, engineering changes, logistics, and ensuring our Sailors have the systems they need, when they need it to safely complete the mission. Over the last 25 years, I have led large teams, managed complex programs, and supported National Defense at every level. What gives me the most satisfaction is solving difficult problems, helping others succeed, and knowing my work directly supports our warfighters and their families.

My most important role is being a mother to my two children, Addie (12) and Tegun (8). They are my heart and my greatest motivation. Everything I do is centered around making sure they feel loved, supported, and secure. I have always tried to teach them strength, resilience, and how to find positivity even during difficult times. They are the reason I keep fighting.

I was diagnosed with kidney disease nearly 20 years ago. For years, I managed it quietly while continuing to work full-time, raise my children, and stay active in everyday life. Recently, my kidney disease progressed to the point where I had to begin dialysis.  am now doing home dialysis treatments at night, which allows me to continue working and remain fully present for my children during the day. My goal has always been to keep life as normal as possible for them—to still be there for school events, sports, family time, and all the moments that matter most. Dialysis has been one of the biggest adjustments of my life, but I am determined not to let it define me. A kidney transplant would mean freedom from dialysis, better health, and more precious time with my children, family, and friends. I am currently searching for a living kidney donor who would be willing to help give me that second chance at life.

I am someone who does not like to sit still for long. I enjoy staying active, spending time with family and friends, and being fully involved in my children’s lives. Some of my favorite moments are the simple ones—watching movies, reading, talking, and just being present with the people I love.

Dialysis has forced me to slow down, which has been one of the hardest adjustments. I try to focus on the positive and remind myself that even those quiet hours can become meaningful time with my children. After receiving a kidney transplant, I look forward to having more freedom—freedom to stay active, travel more, continue supporting my children without medical limitations, and simply live life without dialysis controlling my schedule. Most of all, I want more healthy years with the people I love most.

We need you to help us support April.  Whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor,  you can make a profound impact!
