Andre Garcia De Alba

Living Donor | Marine Corps

My name is Andre, and I am a 28-year-old husband and father. I am still currently serving as a United States Marine, although that will change sometime this year. I am looking at being medically retired as a Staff Sergeant after 9+ years around mid to late 2025. I am currently serving as an 0211 or Counterintelligence/Human Intelligence Specialist.

If I am honest, I will miss the service, even the aspects no one enjoys. It was the camaraderie that brought me to the Corps in the first place and that is what has kept me going. I have been lucky enough to be stationed in amazing locations such as Hawaii, Virginia Beach, and California. I am looking to find a job in the same field I currently work in. Currently searching for positions in intelligence.

In late 2024, I was diagnosed with IGA nephropathy. It was discovered that my kidneys were failing at the end of pre-deployment training for the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The doctors attempted to stop the progression so that I could fulfill my obligations as a Marine. Unfortunately, that was not feasible. I started dialysis in February of 2025 after a dangerous drop in renal function.

I was fortunate enough to meet my wife at my first duty station in 2017, and we have been together ever since. Two years ago, we welcomed our first child Aaliyah into our lives. We would like to have more, unfortunately our lives are on hold until we can sort out these medical issues.

My major hobby right now is taking care of my daughter. I enjoy taking her to the park and chasing her around. She has a lot of energy, and I am looking forward to being able to pick her up again like I used to. I also enjoy running with my dog, freediving, kayaking, and hiking. I look forward to doing all those things post-transplant again.
