Albert “Big Al” Henderson served in the U.S. Navy for four years as an Operations Specialist and was honorably discharged as a 3rd Class Petty Officer. He enjoyed working with other armed services and traveling on the ocean during his time in the military.
Big Al’s civilian career has been focused on healthcare. For the past 12 years, he has worked as an RN and MSN Clinical Nurse Educator and enjoys improving his own health and the health of others he has met throughout his life. He loves making a difference in his patients’ lives and wants them to feel the best they can and to be happy and healthy.
Big Al was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome in 1998 and battles some fatigue due to his kidney failure. Gratefully, he is not yet reliant on dialysis and hopes to receive a transplant soon. Big Al has been married for 18 years to his wonderful wife and best friend and would love to travel with her around the world.
After a transplant, Big Al would like to be more active in the gym, participate in winter activities like snow biking and snowmobiling, and get out in their RV, camping with their friends.
For medically cleared donors, giving the gift of life through living kidney donation has been proven to be very safe. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery. A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save Al’s life with the other!
Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!
